Reflecting on Inspired Spaces: A Celebration of Knysna Design and Craftsmanship
There was a distinct and vibrant energy filling our Knysna factory on the evening of November 13th. When the concept for “Inspired Spaces” first began, our intention was simple. We wanted to build an evening where interior design, authentic local craftsmanship, and meaningful conversation could come together under one roof. As we look back on the event now, we are thrilled to say it turned out to be exactly that kind of night.
A Look Behind the Scenes
For our team here at JB Furniture Manufacturers, opening the factory doors gave us a rare opportunity to share the reality of our daily work. We have been producing quality furniture here in the heart of South Africa’s timber industry since 1995, and taking guests on a tour through the production line brought that long history into sharp focus.
There is something incredibly grounding about witnessing the physical journey of the wood. Watching raw American White Oak, American White Ash, and solid local Pine as it gets shaped into the finished items you usually only see in a catalogue or showroom offers a new perspective on quality.
Celebrating Local Talent
The success of the evening relied on the talent we are fortunate to have in our local industry. We were honored to host Bridget from BLUM Bespoke Nursery & Garden Center a fellow GWEN Collective member. Her talk on biophilic design and the methods for bringing nature into our homes resonated deeply with many of us who strive to create calmer, more natural environments in our living spaces.
The factory floor felt completely transformed by the visual details provided by our partners. The space truly came alive thanks to the fine art displayed by Rhiannon Chauncey and the beautiful, locally crafted ceramics from Lesley Etherington. We also have to mention the layers of comfort and texture added by Paisley and Bloom’s scatter cushions and blankets, along with the stylish furniture accents provided by The Gather Shop.
Pulling all these diverse elements together into a cohesive look required a sharp eye. Claire from Tidswell Interiors was instrumental in helping us with the setup and decor, ensuring the showroom looked its absolute best.
Hospitality and Connection
No evening of networking works without great hospitality. The conversation flowed easily throughout the night, helped along by the delicious canapés from Private Chef Jade and a fantastic selection of drinks provided by Stettyn Family Vineyards and Red Bridge Brewing.
To everyone who joined us, thank you for bringing your curiosity and enthusiasm. We hope you walked away feeling connected to the local design community and inspired by the potential of your own spaces.
